Parkes Forbes Landfill Options Study
view pdf...
In December 2001, the inaugural NetWaste Subregional Waste Management Plan made the following recommendations related to waste management infrastructure: I3 - Assess the potential to consolidate landfills across the subregion; and I4 - Investigate the political realities of Councils sharing Landfills. The rationale for these recommendations was to minimise the long term environmental risks associated with landfills through the sharing of resources across the entire NetWaste region. In response to these recommendations, Parkes and Forbes Shire Councils have commissioned Nolan-ITU to investigate the potential joint consolidation of waste management and landfill activities to minimise their long term environmental risk.

The Publishers National Environment Bureau (PNEB), representing the newspaper and magazine companies and Norske
Skog (Australia's newsprint producer), are investigating the potential to increase the recovery of old newspapers (ONP) and old magazines (OMG) from the NetWaste region. This study has been endorsed by NetWaste and potentially
seeks to leverage scrap metal collection processes already in place within the region.
