Waste To Art

A NetWaste initiative and proudly sponsored by SIMS Metal, WASTE 2 ART is a community exhibition and competition that shows creative works made from reused and recycled waste materials.
The purpose of the project is to encourage the concept of REDUCE REUSE and RECYCLE whilst changing attitudes about ‘rubbish’ and what waste we all create on a daily basis.
NetWaste Consists of 28 councils in Central and Western NSW and this year, 20 of those councils participated in the Waste To Art Competition: Blayney, Blue Mountains, Bourke, Broken Hill, Central Darling (Menindee), Cobar, Coonamble, Dubbo, Forbes, Gilgandra, Mid-Western, Narromine, Orange, Parkes, Walgett, Warren, Warrumbungle, Weddin, and Wellington.
The winning artworks from each of the local competitions were transported to a Regional Exhibition in Menindee held during 5 June 2010. Over 150 artworks from across the NetWaste region were exhibited and showcased wonderful examples of how waste can be turned into something new. What a great way to divert some of that waste we produce from the landfill!
Please check with your local Council to see if they are participating for 2010/2011 Waste to Art.
Sixty eight of the artworks have been photographed and are now travelling around the NetWaste region so that communities can see the incredible work that has been created using materials that no one wants anymore.
Project Stages:
- Free community workshops in each centre as a way of encouraging community members to participate in the local competition and exhibition.
- Local competitions in each participating community centre.
- Regional Exhibition and Competition and Travelling Photographic Exhibition featuring a selection of entries from the Regional Exhibition.
The 2010-2011 Waste To Art competition will commence later this year, with the first workshop and exhibition expected to be held in November.
The Regional Exhibition will be held in Forbes this year with the opening scheduled for June 2012.
