Sustainability in Action

This fantastic program is an initiative of Red Hill Environmental Education Centre. NetWaste proudly supports this program each year as it provides an opportunity to hear the opinions and ideas of High School students, the hardest group from our point of you to engage with in a meaningful way.

Objectives

  • Provide an opportunity for students to learn about our parliamentary system
  • Provide an opportunity for students to debate at Parliament House, Sydney
  • Provide a forum for students to learn from leaders in sustainability
  • Provide a forum for students to debate  environmental issues

Outcomes – 7 – 10 Geography (Civics and Citizenship)

Students will develop knowledge and understanding of:

  • How they can become involved as individuals at a local level
  • How they can exercise their rights and responsibilities as citizens
  • How individuals, groups and levels of government are involved in the process of change in Australian communities
  • The purpose, structures and actions of community groups, responding to change in Australian communities
  • Decision making processes involved in the management of geographical issues in Australia and the implications for sustainability, social justice and equity
